John, Daymond-HR2016-1Author, entrepreneur and Shark, Daymond John knows a thing or two about hard work. He built his multi-million-dollar clothing brand, FUBU, from a $40 budget before parlaying that success into a multitude of others. John’s fourth book, Rise and Grind: Outperform, Outwork, and Outhustle Your Way to a More Successful and Rewarding Life, emphasizes the hustle.

There may be many books on shortcuts to success that tout the “get rich quick” approach, but John’s would not be one of them. Instead, he emphasizes the hard work, which is why he resonates so well with APM.

“Convenient though it might be to believe that you can shortcut your way to the top, the truth is that if you want to get and stay ahead, you need to put in the work,” John notes in the book. “You need to out-think, out-hustle and out-perform everyone around you. You’ve got to rise and grind every day.”

John is a big believer in no excuses. If he can find the time to accomplish his to-do list every day, then the rest of us ought to be able to as well. One of the ways he accomplishes this is by noting what he doesn’t do. Things like complain, sleep in, binge-watch Netflix, check Instagram. He also works on 10 goals a day that have various deadlines, some as far out as 20 years. He works out the quantifiable actions he can take that day as part of his to-do list to inch him closer to these goals. John meditates over this list in the morning as he works through the game plan in his head. At night, he checks back in with himself and the progress he’s made.

To John, life and its successes is a game of inches and sprints – not miles and marathons. Keep moving the needle bit by bit in the right direction and you’re guaranteed to reach the finish line. The finish line is quickly approaching us, as there’s less than four months left in the year.

We know you have a lot on your plate and your own to-do list, but we hope one of those items will be to come see John speak at APM’s Symposium, which will be held Oct. 10 and 11 at the JW Marriott LA Live. You can register here:
